Domino Math Games

There are so many different ways to use dominoes in math.

Here are a few of my favorite ones.

Domino Keepers Addition

a game for 2 players (or two teams)

All of the dominoes are placed in the centre face down.

Both players pick up a domino at the same time.

Each player tells the sum of the dots on their domino, e.g. 2+4=6, 5+3=8.

The player with the highest answer keeps both dominoes. If both players have the same answer, each keeps a domino. The winner is the player or team with the most dominoes when all dominoes have been picked up.

Domino Keepers Multiplication

a game for 2 players (or two teams)

Play this game as above but instead of adding the two numbers on the domino, multiply them.

These games tick all of the boxes - the kids love them, they are simple to play and all you need is a set of dominoes!

 

   

  

 

 

 

Bump! Bump! Bump! Bump Math Games

Many of you will be familiar with Bump Games for math. If you have used these games with kids, you will know how much kids love to BUMP!

That's why I have created several sets of Bump games.

 

Most Bump games have the players simply add 2 or 3 numbers together, but I like games that really make kids think and apply their basic math skills so these games do much more.

 

These games are for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and I have made 2 freebie games for each. You can download these math 'Bump' games from my TpT store.

October Math to Make Them Think!

Here are some math board games that will make them think.
They are a spider theme so you can tie them in with Halloween or if Halloween isn't celebrated in your school, they can still be used as there is no direct reference to Halloween.

This game is an addition game but it does more than just practice addition facts.

 

2 Players take turns to roll 2 dice and add the number together. They then have to cover any 2 numbers on the game board that add to this total. Sounds easy but as the game progresses and there aren't many numbers left uncovered, they have to really start thinking.

 

I love games that make kids think and really apply their math skills and this game does just that!

 

Once they have mastered this one, they can try the more advanced version where they roll 3 dice and cover 2 or 3 numbers that add the total of the dice.

Board Games Aren't Boring!

As a kid I loved board games and I have to admit, I still enjoy playing a game or two. I also love using games to teach math so somewhere along the way I combined these loves and started making math board games.
I discovered that the kids loved it and they became much faster at recalling math facts or calculating math.
It was also great to hear them begging to play particular games. I also found that they were great as a bribe - 'If you get this done quickly and do a job, you can play a game.' Well it does work!
I have made loads and loads of games and love dreaming up more. My main criteria for a game is that it is simple to prepare and simple to learn to play. You can try it for yourself with these!
